Swagatam Haldar
Hi! I am Swagatam, it literally translates to “welcome” in several languages!
I am working on the OpenEuroLLM project at the ELLIS Institute Tübingen. I am part of the team led by Dr. Aaron Klein and Dr. David Salinas. See research below for my current interests.
I completed a master’s degree in Machine Learning at the University of Tübingen. Prior to that, I worked as a research engineer at IBM Research India in Bangalore. I received my B. Tech degrees in Electrical Engineering (major) and Computer Science (minor) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur in 2020.
If you are interested in my work or would like to chat about common interests, potential collaboration etc., I would genuinely love to hear from you, feel free to shoot me an email.

Research
My current research interests broadly circle around understanding different aspects of LLM training: scaling laws, effect of different architectures such as mixture-of-experts, and optimizers, and automating them to some extent. In earlier years, my research spanned topics on simulation-based inference; explainability and interpretability. Find some of my research artefacts below!
